Ok some of you, I'll give you time to stop laughing............... and I don't care if you're not done (fuckers <3).
So, this weekend is kind of a scary milestone for me. 10 year high school reunion on Saturday night. holy shit. When did that happen? I guess about the same time everyone started getting married and having kids - close to having friend/couple number 3 having a baby and in fact she's overdue!
I'm still kind of interested to find out what's going on with old people from high school. I know I ended up getting a bit attached to seeing all of them every day, even if way back I either didn't hang around certain people as much as I would've liked to or didn't enjoy others company. A lot can change in 10 years. I know for one I was pretty retarded (oh hey, irony) back then.
That leads me to Facebook, which is useful simply because almost our entire reunion was planned on it. I've never been into all the gadgets and shit you can add, but I'm glad it allowed the organizers to find everyone easily. So I've seen a lot of what people are up to, but Facebook sure as hell isn't as good as face-to-face.
...Hm. Not entirely sure if I'm where I thought I'd be in 10 years. I'm sure I say that with a tinge of disappointment, but at the same time, I'm not entirely sure I really gave it all that much thought, to be honest. I need to make plans, as much as I hate doing it. It'll focus me onto something - though for the time being my focus really needs to organizing my shit for getting out on my own. It's one of those times, though, that kind of reminds you that you're pretty gimped up. :D
But that'll all come together. This weekend will definitely be... enlightening. Now taking bets on percentage of former classmates who have families of their own.

If it wasn't almost time for me to get to bed for work tomorrow I might've used LoudTwitter that I've seen around lj lately. So yes. Thanks to my new job I might actually be on TV thanks to an event sponsored by CTV on Monday. I sincerely doubt I'll get air-time all to myself (heh wishful thinking - and in a way I'd kind of not want to get it!) but there is the possibility. So who knows? Anyway, I'm going to be at Vancouver City Hall tomorrow to help my fellow employees kick off a disability awareness campaign. Click here if you have a passing interest... and if you're actually in the area, too! :D ~ Mike Tags: tv, work Current Mood: excited

In 2008, nykad resolves to... Get back in contact with some old dorks. Give some wheels to charity. Start a music fund. Be nicer to norg. Drink four glasses of gunbound every day. Find a new gamecube. Man, I have been SUCH a huge dick to norg. I bet I'm doing it right now. :P ~Mike Tags: meme

Feel like I'm updating all over. All my local friends ended up on facebook so I just updated there. Sorry, feeling lazy, but I'm going to cut and paste. I've returned to my "ignore lj" phase so it's high time I break this trend....
On Saturday, my Aunt Nancy, my cousin Maegan, my cousin Senga and her husband, plus their 3 kids (aged 2.5, 5, and 6 - three boys) arrived from Ontario. THE KIDS ARE CRAZY. Very adorable but very crazy. It's such a switch from having just three people around my place without little kids... now it's 10 people. The only child thing has really changed my perspective but these three boys are pretty good. I was secretly hoping for "girlfriend defense" since she's used to siblings (four!) but I've had to swing it on my own thanks to crazy Canada Day border work schedules. :D
Tomorrow is going to be a little different though and no one is really looking forward to it (from my estimation at least). Spreading my uncle's ashes into the Georgia Straight on the Tuesday (July 3rd). Surprisingly enough, we contacted BC Ferries, because they actually allow you to schedule things like this on a regular ferry sailing. Once this is out of the road I think everyone will enjoy the rest of the week more.
After that, Wednesday/Thursday is Whistler, then the rest will be whatever we can do in the city, weather permitting. Family's leaving on Monday, but my Aunt is staying with us for another week afterwards.
So that's where it's at. I'll update again soon once the craziness subsides. ~Mike~ Tags: family Current Mood: chipper Current Music: bits of NIN here and there

It didn't take me too long to figure out the dumbest LJ subject line ever. :D Meant to update earlier but I've been a bit tired... and have a tiny bit of a cold. Serves me right for staying up late and not catching up. At least the cold is almost gone already - another good night's sleep and it'll be dead. So! I got to hang out with 0mandiegirl0 again on Wednesday, and I found another excuse to link to her LJ again. Took her to this fundraiser I was invited to (and I was even asked to speak, what). Guess I've turned into some sort of disabled poster-boy - I'm too articulate for my own good. :P It was the one on Vancouver Island last year that moved venues back to the mainland this year; only an hour away! Got to watch them hand over one of those giant checks to Muscular Dystrophy Canada for $10,000 too. :o Also, seeing as I was MandaPowered™ I didn't even have to get towed around the golf course via a golf cart like last time. And she didn't even break down! All in all it was a good, yet quiet, day, even with this wicked sunburn I got on the back of my neck argh. Great weather, free food, and Aamanda even won a doorprize in the form of Purdy's chocolates. Clearly the only reason I have a girlfriend is because I can provide her with chocolate. ;) As usual I'm looking forward to our next meeting... and it feels good to be updating the LJ again on a consistent basis. ~Mike~ Tags: fundraiser, girlfriend Current Mood: slight cold grr Current Music: MIKA!!

Little update now that I'm not feeling tired. I'll try to keep the sap to a minimum! :D 0mandiegirl0 got to my place without any snags and the entire weekend went fantastically. Spiderman 3 was great (we both enjoyed it IMMENSELY), dinner out was nice, and two of my friends got to meet her. We even nerded out at my place by watching the first LoTR movie (she'd never seen the extended version!). Sadly the gift I had bought hadn't arrived yet but I gave her a picture of it and chocolate and she was THRILLED. :D Additionally was really nice knowing she was staying over too instead of having to run early to get back home. So far my friends and parents have all gotten along with my girlfriend famously. I never really doubted that for a second but I guess I'm biased haha. I think I just need to stress that I had a fantastic weekend (very very very good!!)... and we get together again very soon! This Wednesday, I've been asked to go help out at a fundraiser and be a "disability poster-child" by giving a short speech. So guess who I invited to go with me? :D <3 Oddly enough, this is the fundraiser from last year where I had to be towed by a golf cart, but this time, I don't have to go to Vancouver Island... and it looks like I'm not bringing the power chair this time. Also? The power chair and I are not on speaking terms now. grr. Regardless, everything is going really well. C'mon Wednesday hehe. ~Mike~ Tags: charity, dating, girlfriend, movies, wheelchair Current Mood: fantabulous Current Music: Nine Inch Nails - In This Twilight
